Essay

The dissertation contains a solution of the problem of cytogenetic evaluation of genome damage in somatic cells and biological dosimetry in persons exposed to low dose radiation due to the Chernobyl NPP accident. A 14-years monitoring resulted in establishing of dose-effect and time-effect relationships of formation and changing the yield of cytogenetic abnormalities in evacuees from 30-km Chernobyl zone, liquidators and residents of radioactively contaminated areas. The methodology of chromosomal biodosimetry was improved and the accumulated doses were estimated in irradiated persons with various exposure conditions. Cytogenetic criteria for formation of the groups at risk of late radiation effects were elaborated.
