Essay

The thesis covers the lastest Iranophone population of the Eurasian steppe – the Alans-Ases (Jases) who were included into the states of Altaic origin Nomads during VI–XV centuries AD. Character of relations between the Nomads-conquerors and the conquered Alans was researched. Also an attempt was made to connect political events in Eurasian steppe with peculiarities of ethnic developing of the Alans-Ases in Middle Ages. Questions of Alans’ participation in ethnogenesis of Eurasian Medieval and Modern peoples were considered as well. The example with Alans-Ases confirms that settled population of steppe occupied lower level than Nomads did in social structure of the Nomadic states though under certain circumstances of political character this tradition could be disobeyed. Thus, in steppe the co-existence of moving cattle-breeding and settled agricultural economy systems can be considered a rule but transition from the moving pastoral economy to settled agricultural one is a forced necessity.
