Essay

The object is the oscillatory processes in quasi-optical resonators (QR) with cylindrical and spherical surfaces. The purpose is the spectral and energy characteristics of dielectric, semiconductor and ferrite resonators with "whispering gallery" oscillations or surface oscillations, and a determination of electrophysical parameters of substances. Methods are the solution of a set of Maxwell's equations, and the integrated approach: experiment, theory and numerical simulation. Novelty: new QRs as a part of the cylinder or sphere including dielectric and/or metal non-uniformities are studied. The earlier not studied eigen oscillations of dielectric, and semiconductor and ferrite QRs with cylindrical and spherical surfaces were detected. The problem of electrophysical parameters determination of substances was solved on the basis experimentally of measured resonance frequencies and Q-factors of nonuniform QRs.
