Essay

This dissertation is the first research in Ukrainian historiography of genealogy basis of Farmers of separate big region during long enough historical period. It is proved, that in spite of vast distribution and substantial loses at Ukrainian, Russian and Polish Archives, there are still preserved some resources that make it possible to reconstruct the genealogic trees of non-privileged population of Podillya county, at least till the end of ХVIІІ century. Archive documents are very different but with wise approach we can get positive result. First of all of big importance are document collections from the Ukrainian archives. They have maximum material of the local "pospolytykh" - people; they contain the most documents of lower administrative links, where the most important information had been preserved; also, they are the most convenient and accessing for the genealogic research, which demands lasting work with the archive documentation. A number of state and clerical institutions and clerks had been defined who dealt with the documents which contained personal information of the farmers, also been followed a specific of formation separate parts of a whole mass of genealogic materials. The final research gave us data of almost 100% of the population at that time in the hubernia. In my dissertation I analyzed more than a hundred types of different documents, which contain genealogic information. Also time of its creation had been specified as well as terms of their usage and area of their spreading, and the level of their preserving. Also it was proved in my work that the most effective in genealogic work is usage of written documents, that cover big enough amount of the population. Attention is paid to those resources that traditionally was not regarded as very informative. Also shown genealogic validity of the records of military hiring, passport listing, police information, and other archive documents, whic h haven't been studied yet. There is a possibility of maps usage to identify place of residenceof each family in the village. We also studied important documents of jurisdictional records. There is recorded an information of everyday life, conflicts with neighbors and inside the families, placement of the estates, street nick-names and other names.
