The aim of the dissertation is to analyse the specific features of the historic and philosophic reflection of gender stereotypes in Western European culture. The object of the investigation is wide historic and philosophic context of gender stereotypes formation in Western European culture. Methods of historism, from abstract to concrete, fenomenologic reduction method, comparative and the method of coinsidence of logic and hystorical were used. The process of formation and development of the feminine and masculene concepts is analysed at the different stages of mankind's culture. The specific features oh the philosophic reflection of these concepts are investigated in the works of the thinker's of Ancient world, Middle ages, Renaissance, Modern period, irrationalism, postmodern time. The author defines the notions which reflects the concept of the feminine and masculine in the conceptions of the philosophers of different cultural epochs. The analysis is given concerning the feminine and masculine as the contrary culture categories. It is shown that these categories are based on such oppositions as the independence - deoendence, aggression - mildness, brytality - tenderness, rationalism - emotions, seriousness - shallowness, strenth - weakness, cruelty - kindness, dynamics - statiec etc.
