Tomashevska O. Associations between the metabolic syndrome and development of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease: clinical, laboratory and functional predictors

Object - risk factors of development of the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease in people of young age; parameters of metabolism, hemostasis, structure and function of the heart and liver in patients with the metabolic syndrome and its association with 2nd type diabetes mellitus and IHD; methods - clinical, laboratory, statistical; novelty - cardiovascular risk factors prevalence in people of young age was revealed; consecutive development of the metabolic syndrome was formulated and proved; new data concerning pathogenesis of this syndrome were obtained; peculiarities of associations between insulin resistance and anthropometric parameters, blood lipids and lactate levels, pyruvate dehydrogenase activity, arterial hypertension, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease were revealed; associations of inflammatory and hypercoagulation markers with features of the metabolic syndrome and structural and functional heart parameters were detected; results - diabetes and cardiovascular disease predictors inpatients with the metabolic syndrome were established; the scheme of metabolic syndrome diagnostic studies was elaborated, modification of its criteria was proposed; implemented into practice of healthcare settings of seven regions of Ukraine, into scientific and educational process of nine medical universities of Ukraine; branch - medicine.
