Essay

The thesis is devoted to the analysis and use of the mixed finite element method (FEM) to solve application problems of solid mechanics. A general theory of the mixed projection-mesh algorithms of the FEM has been developed based on a simultaneous approximation of displacements, strains, and stresses using different sets of basis functions. Ad hoc iterative algorithms have been proposed and developed for solving matrix equations of the mixed method as applied to the problems of the theories of elasticity, plasticity and free vibrations.
