Essay

Heterogeneous composite materials. Asymptotic methods are developed for a study of composites taking into account micromechanical effects. Effective properties are determined, local fields are calculated. An asymptotic model of the effect of imperfect bonding between the components is proposed. A solution of the problem of the plastic flow of bimetallic composites through conical dies is obtained. Wave propagation in layered and fibrous composites is studied. Dispersion relations are determined, attenuation factors are calculated, phononic band gaps are identified. Edge effects appearing nearby the outer boundary of composite structures due to the load transmissions from fibres to the matrix are studied. Obtained results can be used for the design and calculation of composite materials and structures in Civil and Mechanical Engineering.
