Essay

The object to research: the linear and nonlinear effects by propagation of electromagnetic pulses and waves in amorphous dielectric medium, optical fibers and resonators are given. Objective: the processes of formation and interaction of quasi-particles named polaritons in dielectric medium, the dependence of polariton parameters like the energy, momentum, mass, angular momentum from properties of medium are described. Methods: the methods of nonlinear optics and theoretical physics, slowly varying amplitudes, hydrodynamical methods, quantum methods, calculation methods. Results: the processes of occurrence of macroscopic structures in the form of bright and dark solitons, helicons, optical vortices are described. It is shown that in the dielectric resonator the formation of polariton quasi-condensate is possible, the interacting vortices are generated in it. The physical mechanism and feature of design of the optical logic gates and the controllable one- and two-dimensional photonic crystals are described. Field of use: optical fiber lines, optical processors and optical filters.
