In the work the methodological role of the "national security" category is analyzed in the aspect of development of political theory of mutual relations of the states, іt is proved that the crisis of national identity of Ukraine, as a problem of its national security, has objective and subjective grounds and has a large influence on political stability in Ukraine. At the same time it shows that a problem of national identity is not only the specific problem of Ukraine but also of Russia, of all post-socialistic states, and even the countries of EU. The civilization choice of Ukraine, in the aspect of home and foreign policies choice of the power and the citizens, depends on many factors, but the leading part is acted by the factor of Russian relations, where rationally pragmatic values are on the background, and the socially psychological factor of "divorce" with the mother country of empire which is accompanied by social syndromes from both sides goes out on the foreground, especially in the political sphere.
