Essay

The dissertation deals with the research in historiography of the role of women in the history of Ukraine since oldest times till present days. On the basis of broad historiographic background and substantial array of facts, the work defines the main stages of development of knowledge in women's history of Ukraine during the recent 110 years, characterizes the dominant trends embodied in scholarly studies of each stage, defines the factors influencing the standpoints of domestic and diasporal researchers. Collected, analyzed, systematized and characterized are the main groups of historiographic sources dedicated to examining and clarifying the historical place of women in the development of Ukraine. Evaluated are the contributions of historians as well as those of the representatives of other socio-humanitarian disciplines to the research of women's role in the social, economic, socio-political and spiritual (religion, education, science, artistic culture) spheres of Ukrainian people's life from pre-princedom times till the end of the first decade of c. XXI. Defined are more and less developed directions of research in the aforesaid domain. Mapped is the circle of problems that require special scholarly attention and open prospects for further research.
