Essay

Object of the study: low height in children and adolescents. Aim of the study: to study the clinical course and mechanisms forming low height in children and adolescents with endocrine pathology, to develop the scienfically based technology for diagnosis and differentiated treatment in this category of patients. Methods and equipment: clinical, anthropometric, biochemical, immunofermental, radioimmunological, instrumental, mathematical; apparatus Gamma 5500 "Beckman", stadiometer "System Dr. Ketler J.", electronic-balance "Seca". Theoretical and practical results: the mechanisms of forming low height on the basis of different endocrine diseases were studied. The technology for diagnosis and treatment of low height in children and adolescents was developed. The role of partial insufficiency of growth hormone (GH) and decreased levels of IGF-1 and IGF-BP-3 in the mechanism of low height occurrence was proved. An advisable use of combined treatment by rGH and a LH-RH in children and adolescents with low height and unsatisfactory prognosis of final height was based. New method for differentiated diagnosis of pituitary nanism and constitutional short stature was developed on the basis of determining IGF-1 level in blood plasma. Novelty: for the first time, the complex examining state of physical and sexual development in children and adolescents with endocrine pathology was realized in the Ukraine. The register of patients with pituitary nanism was formed and the prevalence of this disease among children population of the Ukrainian was established. The technology for diagnosis and treatment of low height in children and adolescents was developed. An advisable use of combined treatment by rGH and a LH-RH in children and adolescents with low height and unsatisfactory prognosis of final height was based. Degree of implementation: the findings were patented, methodic recommendations for diagnosis and therapy of low height on the basis of different endocrine diseases, monographs, textbooks for doctors, manuals for the students of medical institutions were published. Area of using: endocrinology, pediatrics, gynecology.
