Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the analysis of the researches of Soviet, foreign and modern Ukrainian historians concerning the inclusion of Western Ukraine into the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR in 1939 - at the beginning of 1950th. Over 1000 papers has received historiographical assessment. During the Soviet period the government and the party authorities had a significant influence on the development of the historiography that was aimed at justification of the legitimacy of the Western Ukraine accession into the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR as well as at promotion of "public support" for social transformation. However the foreign historiography highlights that issue as a expansionary policy of the USSR. Modern Ukrainian historiography interprets that process as incorporation and Sovietization phenomena that were aimed at unification of all spheres of public life under the Soviet model.
