The thesis investigates the theoretical aspects of Yurii Lawrynenko's literary and scientific thinking. Being a famous Ukrainian researcher, who emigrated from Ukraine to the United States after World War II, Yurii Lawrynenko contributed a great deal in the development of Ukrainian theory of literature. Based on comprehensive analysis of writer's legacy, which consists of published works and documents archive, a new level of comprehension of literary-critical and scientific thought is suggested by the author of the thesis. It is based on the cognitive approach and provides the approach for recourse to concepts of intellectual activity.
