Essay

This dissertation research is devoted to the study of positivism in the historical science in the Ukrainian lands (1860s-1920s). Positivism was the theoretical and methodological basis of historical writing in Ukraine, an important element of the scientists' outlook, part of the consciousness of intelligentsia. He had a positive influence on the historiographical process, in particular under the influence of positivism formed new approaches to the interpretation of the historical process, object, subject, a conceptual framework, methodology of historical science. The main elements of a positivist model of historical writing in the historical science in the Ukrainian lands were: the belief in the social progress, the recognition of the historical process as law-governed, multi-factorial, and developing of a theory of social evolution.
