Oksana O. Ukrainian Source Studies in the period of Romanticism: sources and formation.

One of the key problems in history of the Source Studies is actualized in the thesis: the Romanticism is a special period in this country's Source Studies, because it drew researchers' attention to the Source as such, namely as a subject deserving cognitive efforts. In the period of the Romanticism a question of methods and limits of the historical sources' knowledge was raised. Generally-Romanticism's purposes concerning actualization of the source's role were strengthened by other factors that were conductive to growth of interest in antiquities (starozhytnosti). The realization of State programs concerning sources on home history created favorable foundation for formation of the Source Studies as a science. The Source Studies' work in the second half of the 19th century, in our view, had two main trends: a source was being studied as an independent research problem and in the same time as means of knowledge.
