The thesis is devoted to improving the quality of implementation of technological process of harvesting sugar beet and root placing into a massive swath along the field. The results of theoretical and experimental investigations of the cutting process plant mass rotor and disk beet toppers and digging roots by rotary-fork diggers with active disk rakes were presented, their rational structurally-technological indexes were founded and the structural parameters of the technological scheme of beet-top-root removing machine with swath forming unit were calculated. The use of rotary and disc cutting apparatus of plant mass and fork-rotor diggers with rods fixed on their cone side in combination with active disk rakes in beet-top-root removing machine guaranteed improving of quality and reduction in energy input of cutting and grinding of beet tops, and digging of beet root was realised without soil adhering because of their more intensive cleaning in the process of digging and placing them into a massive swath. Comparative laboratory and field experiments of toppers and diggers were conducted, and also quality indexes of work of experimental topper and beet-top-root removing machine equipped with swath forming unit with serial machines were defined, economic efficiency calculation was carried out. Methods of engineering design and constructive-technological parameters of topping and digging tools and beet-top-root removing machine with rakes were worked out. On the basis of technical economical evaluation of new method of harvesting sugar beets with placing the roots into a massive swath by beet-top-root removing machine with rakes in comparison with known ones allowed to improve labour productivity on the account of combining operations, reduce losses, damage and energy inputs on the process of digging of roots. Calculation of annual economic effect was 94,79 UAH per harvested hectare.
