Essay

The paper describes different variants of paroxysmal states (PS) by various neurotic disorders on the basis of complete clinic-psychopathological, psycho-diagnostic and neurobiological research. The data obtained through an inventory of psychiatric symptoms in the clinical picture of paroxysmal states were processed with statistical methods, thereby types of paroxysmal states were differentiated. The thesis presents their phenomenology, specifics of their correlation with the main psychopathological syndromes and occurrence in the clinical picture of neurotic disorders. The results of the psycho-diagnostic research were used to identify the dominant strategies of behavior of patients with paroxysmal states in the conflict situations which are specific for every neurotic disorder. The results manifest typical reaction to the frustration and indicate higher levels of social adaptation of the patients. It is proven that the PS-patients mobilize their psychical processes (memory, attention, efficiency) when the frustration effects over a long period of time. The thesis corroborates the hypotheses about role of paroxysmal activity in the signal mechanisms of transient neurodynamic systems of the brain and the transformation of the PS in its exceeding functions.
