The scientific theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of the Russian imperial idea and the systematization of conceptions and projects making the Russian imperial idea are carried out in this thesis; their role and significance in the history of Russian political thought and in its contemporaneity are defined. The sources of the modern transformation of the theoretical comprehension of the imperial idea by Russian researchers are analyzed and the specific character of this transformation is exposed, with new political conditions and scales as well as the political orientation of its basic modern versions being considered.
