Subject of study: autoimmune thyroiditis in postmenopausal (PM) period. The aim is to classify AIT PM-period as a distinct disease formed amid hormonal and immune statuses changes, leading to the key distinction from other thyroiditis and requiring distinctive methods of diagnostics and treatment. Methods of study: clinical and instrumental, immune enzyme, biochemical, morphological, and statistical. The complex characteristics of the AIT PM-period has been received for the first time: formation amid the imbalance in the components of immunity with the dominance of cellular immunity activity, CD3 and CD4 levels, lower than in the reproductive period, a larger deficit of T-suppressor component, a less cytokines activation, CRP, Fas-apoptosis, decrease in specific weight of thyroid hormones active fractions, large destruction of the thyroid and the expansion of the lymphoid tissue of the thyroid body. Age factor has been found to affect correlation between the agents of the latent viral infection and components of the immune response. Immune-and-corrective action of drugs of three pharmacologic groups has been specified. Field of use: endocrinology, family medicine, immunology, virology.
