Essay

The dissertation thesis is dedicated to elaboration of the contemporary typhlopsychological theory of development and up-bringing of the personality of blind and visually impaired individuals as a background for compensative and corrective education and integrated medical, psychological and pedagogical rehabilitation. Scientific, natural and pedagogical background and the principles for researches in psychology of visually impaired individuals were considered. The patterns in development of the personality under conditions of vision loss were described, for instance, the role of personal factor in determination of compensatory processes. Special features in mastering different kinds of activity and communication by visually impaired individuals at different stages of socialisation were revealed. The impact of visual impairment on cognitive, regulatory and activating, instrumental and reflexive functions of psychic was described. Psychological and pedagogical preconditions for development of personal potentials of visually impaired individuals were determined. Contribution of Ukrainian scientists into development of age-related and educational, and social psychology of visually impaired was analysed.
