Essay

Object of research – the international struggle for oil in the Middle East in the first third of the XX century. Thesis purpose: on the basis of the analysis unknown and little-known, generally archival, sources (which majority for the first time to be introduced into scientific circulation), considering practices of a known historiography, to investigate struggle of Great Britain for Persian-Mesopotamian oil in 1918-1928. Methods: method of the analysis and synthesis of a historical material, historical, comparative-historical, problem and chronological, critical, system, abstraction method. Scientific novelty: existing views of a course and results of struggle of Whitehall for oil of Persia and Mesopotamia in 1918-1928 are reconsidered; own concept of inconsistent process of formation of the British "oil" policy is constructed; it is found out that from the very beginning of the international fight for Persian-Mesopotamian oil Great Britain always tried to take a place "the third rejoicing", pushing together the opponents of one with another; it is disproved a popular belief that for many years after World War I Great Britain had no "oil" policy; it is proved that Whitehall struggle for Persian-Mesopotamian oil ended not with defeat as throughout long time it was considered to be, and a victory of Great Britain over rivals, including even the USA. Practical value: materials of the thesis can be used by researchers of history of Great Britain, the USA, Russia, France, Iran, Iraq and oil monopolies ("British Petroleum", "Shell", "Standard oil" and others); by preparation of courses and special courses on a world history and history of the international relations; can be useful to the organizations and the companies working in the power sphere. Use sphere: higher educational institutions, research institutes, energy companies.
