Essay

The dissertation presents a systematic research of the process of delimitation of territories, establishment and consolidation of a new boundary line between the USSR/Ukraine and Poland in 1944-1951 as a transaction - compromise political and legal international treaty which was accompanied by mutual concessions on the part of the USSR, the USA, Great Britain, and Poland. The treaty was prearranged by the necessity to solve one of the urgent issues in post war world order to restore the integrity of European space and settle peace in both countries. The systematic and detailed analyses reveals the mechanism of elaboration and adoption of political decision on a new configuration of a boundary according to "Kerzon" line and ethnic population fate, the fulfillment by Ukrainian government and Polish Committee of National Liberation of international agreements on transmigration of Ukrainians and Poles into new states borders in 1944-1946. The research demonstrates how the internal forced relocations/deportations of Ukrainians on both sides of the frontier into the depth of state territories in 1947-1948 and "settling out" of the population in 1951 took place according to the treaty between the USSR and Poland about the exchange of parts of territories. The treaty let to reconstruct all the lines of postwar demarcation as well as to consider consistently its stages, course, and results, also, the acts of governments' leaders, performers and participants, to reconstitute an important segment of historical (national) memory of Ukraine and Poland, people of Europe.
