Essay

The thesis is a complex historical and religious research work devoted to the study of institutionalization processes in the Roman Catholic Church in the Right Bank Ukraine after its inclusion into the Russian Empire (end of the 18th beginning of the 20th centuries). Relations between the Orthodox and the Roman Catholic churches, ethnical and confessional policy of the Russian autocracy, as well as social and economic, public and political positions of the Roman Catholic clergy, its cultural, educational and charity activity are analyzed. It is proved that in the policy of the government of the Russian empire the Russian Orthodox Church was used as means of limitation of the Catholicism, realization of the russificasion policy in the region. The Roman Catholic clergy became the decisive factor of the opposition to assimilatory processes and maintenance of the Polish national originality.
