The thesis presents a comprehensive study of linguocognitive and linguocultural specifics of the verbalization of unreality by English and Ukrainians. The investigation has resulted in advancing the algorithms "the real", "the possible", "the unreal" and suggesting the types of unreality based on the subjective world perception. The theory of lexical counterfactuality in comparative aspect has been introduced to specify verbalized peculiarities of the unreal world in English and Ukrainian. The paper focuses on studying the specific nature of the verbal representation of the concept UNREALITY by English and Ukrainians. Names revealing unreal objects with ethnic specifics have been determined and investigated. The verbal explication of the colour palette and evaluation of the objects of the unreal world by English and Ukrainians have been singled out. The peculiarities of space and time in English and Ukrainian folktales have been highlighted.
