Essay

Dissertation is devoted to determination of the role of low intensity heavy metals in the mechanism of periodontitis, teeth caries, dentofacial anomalies development among adult population and pathogenetic establishment of correction method of their negative influence on the ground of epidemiologic, experimental and clinical study. The increasing of the prevalence of principal dental disorders among residents of polluted territories was established; the weighting was calculated; the level of heavy metals influence on the prevalence of disorders and cause-and-effect relationship were evaluated. The following data was established in the course of experiment: imbalance of heavy metals accumulation in alveolar bone and enamel, development of destructive processes in bone tissue expressing in decreasing of its density and abnormality of enamel mineralization, development of oxidative stress in gums and blood serum. Experience has shown that alpha-lipoic acid harmonizes homeostasis of heavy metals in enamel and alveolar bone, ensures osteoprotective effect and pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance. It was developed the scheme of pathogenesis of alveolar bone destruction and enamel hypomineralization under heavy metals influence. In clinical examination the peculiarities of clinical laboratory indices of periodontitis tissue condition were studied, the efficiency of alpha-lipoic acid prescription to patients with generalized periodontitis who were under influence of heavy metals was shown.
