This thesis propounds a new methodological framework of developing communicative and cognitive competence of university students who major in linguistic fields. Offering research evidence the author questions the conventional wisdom based on the assumptions that language acquisition can be successfully provided primarily against the communicative background, thus the learning process is ultimately aimed at forming communicative competence.
