Essay

The Monograph is dedicated to the in-depth study of Bandura as an phenomenon of Ukrainian musical culture in its evolution process (IV с. B.C.- early ХХІ с.). The hybrid-chordophone Bandura is studied in the context of unitype chordophones of Eurasia. The original instrumental prototypes of Bandura have been determined. The influence of Scythian type Lyrеs on formation of Slavic Lyrе-like gusli and West European medieval Lyrеs has been proved. Main types of Zither-like and Lute-like instruments have been determined which influenced on arising of shape, morphology, melodic strings and the manner of playing Bandura. The correlation between the holding manner, sound-producing mode and the instruments' morphology as factors of the national musical tradition are justified. The classification of the traditional Kobzars' schools is overviewed. Key tendencies of the instruments' development in XX-XXI c. have been systemized. Based on integrated researching method a new direction of the hybrid instruments' study has commenced from historical sources to its' nowadays functioning.
