The novels of Rudyard Kipling, Erskin Childers, William Le Quex, Saks Rohmer, Graham Green, John Boynton Priestley, Erik Ambler, John Le Carre, Ian Flemming, Frederic Forsyth have been analysed being the most representative figures of the spy novel genre. The process of genre forming in diachronic aspect have been observed; the "cellar" model of genre forming where there exist the "kernel" - static element and dynamic cover was proposed. The process of spy novel genre forming is being fulfilled under the influence of the row of the factors in the dynamic cover of the detective novel. The spy novels of the XX th century were divided into five periods: the spy novels of the end of the XIX th century, the spy novels of the First World War period, the spy novels of the Second World War period, the Spy novels of the "cold" war period, the spy novels in contemporary literary-cultural space.
