Essay

Dissertation thesis is devoted to the complex research of Music journalism. The innovate approach of this research is based on the fact that for the first time theoretic investigations in Music journalism can be found in a strong connection with general media theories, journalistic theories and journalism. Intensive interdisciplinary working with theoretical principles of journalism does not only allow systematisation of both genre and forms of musical articles, but prompted me to develop a new basic concept of Music journalism. A rhetorical specification of the research question and a sound historical analysis must be considered the most important part of this research. A terminological concept is being proposed where Musical journalism shall be seen as a form of mass communication, targeted via mass media to a huge heterogeneous and anonymous auditory. Music journalism as a social institution may fulfil important medial functions, which are classified and specified according to the most relevant media theories. The second main section of this a scientific disquisition is dedicated to historical inquiry. Intensive research based on articles of Lviv's daily press over the period of two cen-turies (1776-1939) enables interesting opportunities for interlingual comparison even today. As a result all performed research allow to conclude the evolution of Music journalism in relation to categories, forms of expression and functions - as well as an anthology of historical texts.
