Essay

With the use of a conception of a local mass displacement as a measure of gradientality of mechanical fields a new nonlocal theory of deformation of non-ferromagnetic thermoelastic dielectric solids was built. On this base new class problems of mechanics of coupled fields were formulated for study the near-surface phenomena and electromechanical wave processes in dielectric bodies. The solutions of these problems enabled us to explain theoretically some observed phenomena (in particular, high-frequency dispersion of longitudinal elastic waves, Mead's anomaly) as well as investigate the surface stresses, surface tension, disjoining pressure, lateral force, surface energy of deformation etc.
