The thesis deals with texts and research practices of the prominent representatives of Ukrainian historiography recording of the 19th to the 80s' of the 20th century in the perspective of cultural eras and thought styles. From the standpoint of the Late Enlightenment history recording and early Romanticism, the multi-volume history by D. Bantysh-Kamensky and M. Markevych, including their perception of the cultural space of the Romanov Empire, were analyzed. The numerous and diverse texts of M. Maksymovych, M. Kostomarov and P. Kulish are presented within the romantic paradigm, in particular, their role in the professionalization of the Ukrainian history recording was defined. The communication style and instrumental preferences in the studies of V. Antonovych and M. Drahomanov were outlined in the context of distribution of the "first" positivism. The research strategies of the "critical" positivism, sociologization and vitalism (philosophy of life) were studied in a monumental project of the "History of Ukraine-Rus" by M. Hrushevs'kyi. The neo-romantic visions of Ukrainian history were illuminated in the writings of V. Lypyns'kyi and S. Tomashivs'kyi. The competition of different approaches in the "mass" history of Ukrainian historiography of the 1920s' was shown, in particular the concept of the "genetic sociology" of M. Hrushevs'kyi, the theory of the "single process" of M. Slabchenko, the design of "economic autonomy" of Ukraine by O. Ohloblyn and the attempt of the Bolshevik-Marxist history sociologization by M. Yavors'kyi. The review of B. Krupnyts'kyi's and O. Ohloblyn's texts is provided, including the reflection of the post-war challenges of social humanism and old intellectual settle scores of the Ukrainian historiography recording is traced in their works written during the exile period. The reception of conceptual proposals of the Western social humanism is analyzed on the eve of "anthropological turn" in the texts of B. Krupnyts'kyi. The studies of F. Shevchenko and O. Kompan as the representatives of the reformist (non-conformist) movement in the Ukrainian Soviet historiography were reviewed.
