Kovalevska O. Iconography of the Cossack Senior Officers in 17-18th Centuries: Sources and Historiography

The thesis investigates comprehensively the iconography of the Cossack senior officers 17-18 centuries, i.e. the state of scientific development, scope and quantitative characteristics of the sources basis, methods and techniques for working with depictive sources, their informational and interpretative possibilities, as well as the prospects of subsequent scientific research. The paper discloses the content of the concept and characterizes the significance of the pictorial sources in typological-specific classification of historical data media. The hypothetical and actual number of the source array which can be used by the researchers was calculated. The concept of the iconography of the Cossack senior officers was formulated. It was proven that the available visual material is not sufficient to form a complete picture about the appearance, garments, traditions of depiction and self-representation, household and artistic preferences of the representatives of the Cossack senior officers in 17-18 centuries.
