The thesis is devoted to the historiography of Ukraine's scientific societies in the second half of the ХІХth - early ХХth centuries. Theoretical and methodological principles of scientific development and the degree of scientific development problem were found, classification of the source base was offered, its information capabilities were characterized. The role of the intellectual community of scholars in the accumulation of knowledge about the Scientific Society named after T. Shevchenko in Lviv, Ukrainian scientific society in Kyiv, societies of humanitarian, natural, technical, medical and agricultural areas of identified activity period was determined.
