Essay

Research object: formation processes of bioactive glass composite materials and coatings for medical applications. Research purpose is creation of scientific bases for the synthesis and technology of composite materials and coatings on the base of silicophosphate glasses for medical applications. Research methods: calculations of structure parameters have been carried out with the use of computer processing (Mathcad), physico-chemical properties of materials have been determined according to the requirements of the normative documents for silicate materials and coatings that are currently in effect; clinic and biological as well as microbiological material tests have been conducted according to the national standards of Ukraine to biological assessment of medical items. Theoretical and practical results: the possibility of obtaining glass composite coatings for protection of steel linings in medical facilities and obtaining resorptive glass-ceramic materials for filling bone defects on the base of silicophosphate glasses by synthesis of bioactive glass matrix on the base of the Na2O - Li2O - K2O- СaO - MgO - ZnO - ZrO2 - TiO2 - Al2O3 - B2O3 - P2O5 - SiO2 system and provision of its maximal structure strength by using optimal correlations of phase forming components – active fillers has been theoretically substantiated and experimentally proven. Regularities of formation of the silicophosphate glass materials structure has been experimentally noted. Effect of active fillers of performance properties of composite coatings has been established.Formation conditions and precipitation mechanism of apatite-like layer on the surface of developed materials in vitro have been determined. Technologies of composite materials have been developed with determining optimal parameters of single-stage thermal treatment modes for initial glass materials and obtaining coatings from them. Novelty: scientific bases and technology of bioactive glass-composite materials and medical-purpose coatings on the base of silicophosphate glasses, which provide formation of fine volume crystallized structure in conditions of short-run thermal treatment by directed crystallization have been developed. Degree of implementation: Positive results obtained during tests of the developments on Kharkiv State-owned Experimental Prosthetics and Orthopedics Enterprise, and laboratory of the DETTs DP “Southern Railroad” (Kharkiv), TPC “Primex” (Zaporizhia), ZAO OOO “NVP Dominanta” (Kostiantynivka) and OOO “Kermet-U” (Kharkiv) are the evidence of efficacy of created technologies of obtaining composite materials and medical-purpose coatings. Results of clinical and biological tests, and microbiological researches, carried out in DU “Spine and joints pathologies institute named after prof. M.I. Sytenko AMANU”, Institute of the Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine NANU, and in “Ukrainian Scientific Research Institute of Problems of Ecology” have proven that developed composite materials and coatings may be used as a base in obtaining biocompatible implants in craniofacial surgery and for biocide protection from relatively pathogenic microorganisms in medical facilities. Sphere of use: implementation in the field of implants and protection of metals from corrosion; consists in development of composite materials and coatings for filling bone tissue defects and for protection steel linings of medical facilities and public spaces.
