Research object : breed formation process in an open population of black- and -white dairy cattle of the north - Polissya region. Purpose of research: analysis of breed formation process in an open regional dairy cattle population during recent 60-65 years and working out the methods of creating highly productive herds . Research methods: zootechnical and historical with the use of retrospective analysis, variation and statistical, population and genetic. Scientific urgency: for the first time the ways of formation of black-and-white dairy herd as an open population, peculiarities of breed and genealogical structure, dynamics of economically useful traits of first-calf cows have been studied on the total number of livestock of the five basic breeding farms of the north-Polissya region of Ukraine over a long period of time. Periods of breed formation are determined, over 100 sires of different related breeds of black-and-white root have been estimated directly on the farms, genetic advantages of the most widespread lines and breed combinations have been determined. Stage of implementation: results of the study are implemented in breeding Ukrainian black-and-white dairy breed of private agricultural company "Yerchyky" and experimental farm "Rykhalske" of Zhytomyr region. Field of application: breeding farms, pedigree companies, higher education institutions.
