Essay

Object: Primary open-angle glaucoma. Objective: To improve the effectiveness of treatment of patients with primary open angle glaucoma by clinical and experimental studies of neuroprotection on the basis of these new data on the role of metabolic disorders and inducers of apoptosis in the retina and optic nerve in the pathogenesis of glaucomatous optic neuropathy. Methods: ophthalmic; biochemical; statistics; Equipment: spectrophotometer perimeter humphrey, optical coherence tomography, the unit ECO-2M, computer rheograph, EEG complex. Supplemented with scientific data on the role of disorders of metabolic cycle neurotransmitter glutamate toxicity, bio-energy processes in the mitochondria, the intracellular structures of membrane function in experimental glaucoma. Expanded understanding of the pathogenetic role of oxidative stress, disorders of detoxification and neutralization processes of lipid hydroperoxide in the development of GON. To assess the progression of GON and effectiveness of new methods of conservative treatment of POAG was first developed a mathematical model of multifactor forecasting. It revealed a stabilizing effect of neurotropic drugs on the metabolic abnormalities in the tissues of the eye in patients with POAG. The method of conservative treatment of POAG is to use a combination of neurotropic drugs direct action. The results have been implemented in 17 hospitals in Ukraine. The main provisions of the work included in the program of lectures and workshops 5 departments of medical universities of Ukraine. Area of application: medicine, ophthalmology.
