Essay

This habilitation thesis is devoted to the study of the wave structures in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC), nonlinear optical media and non-equilibrium plasmas. It is predicted theoretically that in nonlocal nonlinear optical media stable vortex solitons exist. A theoretical explanation of a threshold for decay of the persistent current in spinor atomic BEC and exciton-polariton condensates in a ring-shaped trap is suggested. A novel method for stabilization and nondistructive manipulation of quantized vortex rings in atomic BEC is revealed. The conditions for stabilization of two- and three-dimensional Langmuir solitons.
