Essay

Object: post-Soviet republics in the context of contemporary geopolitical transformations. Objective: comprehensive analysis of conditions, trends and regularities of formation and transformation of the security environment of the former Soviet republics. Methods: general scientific and special historical methods (analysis, synthesis, abstraction, descriptive, comparative-historical, historical-genetic, historical-diachronic, empirical analysis, etc.). Results: for the first time the security environment of post-Soviet republics in the light of the internal political situation and foreign policy is comprehensively analyzed, the emergence and transformation of national concepts / strategies of national security and military doctrines of independent states of the former republics of Soviet Union is highlighted, in the regional context foreign policy orientations of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia and Baltics, and also features of regional and global security systems are characterized, the organizational and structural engineering of military forces of the newly independent states, their technical equipment, availability of modern weapons and the possibility of its use in local / global conflicts are described, three-stage scale and criteria for assessment of military security state and the author's method of its testing (indexes, indicators) is proposed, improved the recommendations for improving the defense of the former republics of Soviet Union, including Ukraine at the present stage of state building, conceptual and categorical apparatus, including proposed authorized definition of the term "military security", mechanisms to counter possible military / hybrid external aggression, regional periods of military policy of post-Soviet republics in the late XX – early XXI centuries. Scope of application: in practice of the central governance bodies that related to support of national security, for preparing of synthesis historical and political papers, training manuals, as well as in international organizations activities.
