Shutova M. Ethnic and cultural stereotypes in the English and Ukrainian Languages: Reconstruction and Typology

This thesis offers a new multidisciplinary approach to the reconstruction of ethnic and cultural stereotypes which made it possible to reconstruct idiomatic onomasiological ethnic and cultural portraits of the English and Ukrainians that have been stereotyped in the collective ethnical mentality and behaviour of each nation. The work carried out onomasiological, cognitive and motivational-semantic reconstruction of the keywords of ethnocultural stereotyped idioms to identify archetypal motivational basis of the onomasiological portrait profile of British and Ukrainians; the grammatical-syntactic patterns of idiomatic nomination of ethnic and cultural stereotypes in the English and Ukrainian languages were analyzed; regularities and national-cultural differences in the mechanisms of stereotyping and idiomatic semiotisation of the English and Ukrainian character, mentality, behaviour were established.
