Essay

The work is devoted to safety analysis and safety justification of Ukrainian power reactors of two types: RBMK-1000 and VVER-1000. The first part of the thesis considers peculiarities in calculating the space-time energy distribution in RBMK-1000 and describes the computer code developed by the author for safety analysis of RBMK-1000 in reactivity accidents and xenon transients with a full-scale three-dimensional description of the core. The thesis part devoted to VVER-1000 safety analysis justifies the need to use three-dimensional kinetic codes to analyze a series of accidents and transients to ensure adequate simulation and conservative results. The results of using the computer package to solve a number of problems for VVER-1000 safety assessment in the introduction of new fuel types and fuel cycles, as well as in safety analysis in reactivity accidents, are presented.
