Essay

The study is devoted to the analysis of syntactic idioms, i.e. sentences with the phraseological structures, of the modern Ukrainian language in terms of construction grammar. Features of syntactic idioms are singled out, ways of their formation in the Ukrainian language are determined, basic structural, semantic and intonational types are distinguished, and the pragmatic potential is specified. A syntactic idiomt is one of the types of the structure — a conventional and non- composite speech token which form and meaning are not explained only by combining the form and meaning of their components. The complexity of the organization of any structure, including a sentence with the phraseological stucture, is the result of the interaction of its different levels: syntactic, semantic, pragmatic and prosodic. The compiled registry of syntactic idioms in the Ukrainian language is represented by 105 units. There have been found five ways to form syntactic idioms in the modern Ukrainian language: 1) transformation of a traditional non-phraseological sentence into a syntactic idiom; 2) expansion of the structure of the traditional (lexical) phraseological unit; 3) emergence of new syntactic idioms as the result of interpenetration of syntactic idioms and precedent phenomena; 4) formation of new syntactic idioms according to the functioning model; 5) formation of a new unit by combining two different models of syntactic idioms.
