The paper is one of the first efforts to investigate the challenging issues of coercion in service law and to develop a number of new scientific provisions of theory of coercion in civil service law from a holistic perspective with using modern methods of cognition and taking into account the latest achievements of legal science. It studies historiography of the doctrinal research of the phenomenon of service law, marks stages of the above process with their detailed characteristics, and scientific insights of its subject-matter, methods, functions and system as a sub-branch of administrative law and the scope of coercion objectification gained further development. This, in turn, made it possible to follow the trends aimed at forming a modern scientific foundation both for the systematization of legislation on public service and for optimization of the coercive model in this sphere.
