The thesis is devoted to the deepening of theoretical and methodological principles of research for the development in the motor transport industry and the formulation of recommendations for improving its management in the context of ensuring the expected transformational changes in the national economy, taking into account innovative goals and goals of sustainable development. The research methodology in the field of motor transport in the economy is generalized. The main groups and categories of motor vehicles are identified. The features of functioning for motor transport enterprises are revealed, classification of their types are carried out. Elements of the motor transport infrastructure are determined. The regulatory and legal framework of economic development in the motor transport industry in Ukraine is explored. The features of consideration for the place of motor transport in the structure of the economy are grounded. The development of the motor transport industry in Ukraine is analyzed. The estimation of transportations and their safety on the Ukrainian automobile services market is carried out. The leading importance of motor transport in the structure of passenger traffic in Ukraine is confirmed. The role of road transport in the structure of freight transportation is explored. The basic data concerning the condition of Ukrainian highways and indicators of their improvement are analyzed. The institutes of development and regulation in motor transport in Ukraine are investigated. The importance of strengthening the participation of public institutions in the processes of state regulation in the motor transport industry of Ukraine is argued. The systematization of the state regulation mechanisms in the motor transport industry by the groups of institutional, regulatory, financial, foreign trade, staff, innovation, information, and cultural studies has been systematized. The content of public-private partnership as one of the mechanisms for regulating the development in the motor transport industry is formulated. The priority directions for cooperation in the field of road transport through concession forms, property management and joint activity are proposed. The features of entrepreneurship development in the field of motor transport in Ukraine are analyzed. The structure of economic entities according to the legal status is determined, depending on the licensed transportation service, the structure of passenger transportation depending on distance, etc. The attention is paid to the problem of legality in motor transport services and the combination of legal and illegal traffic. The role of the industry for creating conditions of employment for the population, development of small and medium business in Ukraine is determined. Regression models for dependencies of indicators in motor transport development from economic and innovative indicators were constructed. The predicted estimations of motor transport development in Ukraine in the short-term perspective are carried out using data approximation by the least squares method in the form of a polynomial trend equation. The policy of motor transport development in the EU in terms of European integration processes of Ukraine and its entry as a competitive partner in the European transport space are considered. The strategic priorities for the development of motor transport in the EU are summarized and the main directions of cooperation between Ukraine and European countries in the regulatory, legal, financial, logistical, knowledge-technological and scientific-innovative components are determined. The research concept for the Road Transport Development Strategy of Ukraine in different-term perspective is substantiated. The target priorities of the Road Transport Development Strategy of Ukraine for the short-term period by blocks are determined: infrastructure development; internal transportation; international transportation; competitiveness and innovation. Ensuring the competitiveness of the motor transport industry in Ukraine requires systematic cooperation between specialized state institutions and international funds, "reanimation" of the country's economy production potential, implementation of the idea "Ukraine is a transport hub", as well as stimulating innovations, in particular environmental ones.
