Essay

Object – the process of teaching at higher pedagogical educational institutions of Ukraine (the second half of XX – the beginning of XXI century); the aim – to provide the comprehensive analysis of the theoretical foundation and to generalize the practice of individualization in teaching students of Natural and Mathematical specialties at higher pedagogical educational institutions of Ukraine (the second half of XX – the beginning of XXI century) in order to use progressive achievements and raise the quality of training specialists in current conditions of reforming the national system of higher education; methods – general scientific, historical-pedagogical, retro-praximatical, of term analysis, prognostic; novelty – the dissertation is the first among Ukrainian historical-pedagogical studies to provide the comprehensive retrospective analysis of the problem of individualization in teaching students of Natural and Mathematical specialties at higher pedagogical educational institutions of Ukraine (the second half of XX – the beginning of XXI century); the stages in the development of the problem under research are determined and substantiated with the focus on pedagogical studies and educational practice of the researched period, the specific nature of every stage is analysed; the main tendencies of individualization in teaching students of Natural and Mathematical specialties at higher pedagogical educational institutions of Ukraine (the second half of XX – the beginning of XXI century) are determined; the terms of the research (“individualization in teaching”, “individual approach”, “individualized learning”, “individual teaching”, “ differentiation in teaching”, “differentiation approach”, “differentiated teaching”) are defined and specified; the study of origins of the idea of individualization of teaching young people in the history of world and domestic pedagogical thought is provided and the analysis of individualization in teaching in the studies of foreign scholars and school practice is presented; results – the research highlights the pedagogical ideas of the past as they are typologically similar to the modern aspects of individualization in teaching and presents their new interpretation. The materials of the research will be helpful for teachers of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, for those teaching pedagogical and methodological subjects at teacher training colleges, institutes, universities, for those engaged in programmes of professional development for teachers, for school teachers, undergraduates and Master degree graduates; field – pedagogy.
