Essay

This thesis focuses on the study of linguopoetic aspects of English biblical ecodiscourse elicited from the Old and New Testament biblical narrationsandpoetic descriptions. The research introduces an integrated interpretation of English biblical ecodiscourse from a new linguoecopoetological point of view in its conceptual, narrative, and figurative-symbolic spaces that reveal relationships of manwith nature, family, society, and God. The paper presents biblical ecodiscourse as a conceptual semiotic formation that reflects the principles of interaction between man and his environment. English biblical ecodiscourse constructs ecological values embodiedby the key discourse-forming biblical ecoconcepts of GOD, NATURE, MAN, and SOCIETY. The latter influence contemporary conceptualization of ecological reality and ecological relations in their ontological, epistemological, and axiological facets. The thesis interprets the conceptual space of biblical ecodiscourse as a matrix conceptual model formed by the structured patterns of the key discourse-forming biblical ecoconcepts. These, in their systemic interaction with regard to the type of ecological relations, create a set of conceptual ecotopics. The set of ecoconcepts that profiles the above ecotopics and their mutual correlation are derived through conceptual analysis from the didactically-oriented biblical narrations. Each conceptual ecotopic represents such key discourse-forming biblical ecoconceptscombined with one anotherby cognitive operations of prominence, profiling, and trajectory / landmark alignment. They constitute, in R. Langacker's parlance, the primary and secondary foci of theconceptual model.
