Essay

Object – optic nerve damage in type 2 diabetes mellitus; goal – to increase the effectiveness of treatment of the patients with optic nerve damage in type 2 diabetes mellitus based on the study of new pathogenesis links, development of new diagnostic methods and taking into account the results, optimization of therapy; methods – ophthalmic, laboratory, neurolog-ical, statistics; results – scientific data on morphometric features of the retina and optic nerve in diabetic optic neuropathy (DON) depending on its type and stage are supplemented; the scientific data on the clinical and tomography features of the optic nerve defect, depending on the severity of the diabetic polyneuropathy (DPN), were enlarged; a new method of diagnosis of subclinical DON has been developed; the classification of DON was supplemented; a new method of measuring the thickness of the scleral lamina cribrosa and the area of the scleral canal by means of optical coherent tomography is developed; for the first time, clinical and tomography features of the optic nerve damage in patients with 2 type diabetes mellitus were found to depend on the thickness of the scleral lamina cribrosa; for the first time, narrowing of the scleral canal of the lamina cribrosa was discovered to play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic papillopathy and anterior ischemic DON; a complex method for the treatment of axial diabetic neuropathy taking into account its stage was improved; the scientific data on risk factors of diabetic optic neuropathy are specified; branch – medicine.
