A Dissertation for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophical Sciences in Speciality 09.00.07 – Ethics. – H. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. – Kyiv, 2020. The dissertation presents a research of the following aspects: the reconstruction of the genesis of the idea of calling in the history of culture and the analysis of the concepts of calling in religious and philosophical thought, the hermeneutic phenomenological analysis of the experience of calling, the analysis 27  of the main ethical problems in the realization of calling, the applied research of the importance of the factor of calling in the formation of values and motivation for study and work of school and university students and teachers, the analysis of the possibilities of implementation of the factor of calling in educational practices. The study researches the main worldview sources and conditions of forming of the idea of calling in European culture. Therein the peculiarities of understanding of calling in the Judaic-Christian tradition and in the contemporary doctrines of Christian churches were explained. The analysis also reveals the factors of transformation and secularization of the idea of calling in the historical and social aspects. The research explicates the conceptual grounds of the ethics of calling in the European philosophy, namely in the works of Aristotle, М. Heidegger, F. Hutcheson, S. Kierkegaard, M. Luther, E. Levinas, J.-J. Rousseau, M. Weber and others. In the dissertation the author researches the possibilities and the limits of combination of ontology and ethics in the analysis of the phenomenon of calling. The study explicates the relation between the notion of calling and the cultural meaning of personal, social and spiritual good as well as the link of calling with the ideas of dignity, moral autonomy of a personality, identity and authenticity of existence, the ideas of humanism, responsibility and purposeful life.
