Essay

The state of research of a problem is analyzed, the representative source base is formed, the technique and conceptual strategy of research is developed. A press analysis of crypto-historical journals of Eastern Galicia was carried out (the purpose of creation, goals and objectives of publications, their nature and research orientation, target audience and reception were determined). The peculiarities of the functioning of the specialized scientific historical press in Eastern Galicia have been clarified. The formation and main directions of activity of professional historical periodicals of universal direction are investigated. A historiographical analysis of the content of the materials of the universal scientific journal "Kwartalnik Historyczny", which reflected the intellectual atmosphere of the era, was completed. It is proved that the materials of the publication give an idea of the general state of Polish historical science of the late XIX - early XX centuries. The evolution of the image of Ukraine and Ukrainians from ancient times to the XIX century has been traced on the materials of East Galician Polish historical scientific journals of the XIX - early XX ct. The originality of the representation of the achievements of Ukrainian historical science on the pages of Polish historical scientific journals of Eastern Galicia is shown. It is proved that the Polish scientific periodicals of Eastern Galicia took an important place in the historiographical movement of the XIX - early XX centuries. Moving from small-circulation regional magazines of the first half of the XIX ct. before large-scale projects of the early XX century, the authors of these publications spread their ideas far beyond the region. They introduced new standards of historiography, initiated scientific discussions, informed about their own research achievements, introduced the novelties of historical science, raised unexplored topics. This made East Galician journalism a historiographical phenomenon that played a key role in the formation not only of the local professional center, but also of the entire Polish historical science of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
