Essay

The dissertation presents a scientific rationale and a new solution to the problem that is relevant for modern medicine, in particular oncology, namely the issue of improved immediate and long-term outcomes of treatment and the quality of life in patients with locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma by optimizing the approaches of combined treatment and reconstructive restorative surgery. While comparing to definitive chemoradiotherapy, it has been found that the primary surgical approach with adjuvant radiation or chemoradiation therapy in the management of locally advanced oral squamous cell carcinoma significantly increases the 5-year overall survival rate from (19,1 ± 2,8) % to (55,1 ± 2,9) % (p < 0,001) and the 5-year disease-free survival from (16,2 ± 2,6) % to (57,1 ± 2,9) % (p <0,001).
